Dr. Fowler was awarded board certification in Chiropractic Orthopedics October 3, 1993, by the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists and the American Chiropractic Association (ACA).
This degree is achieved by taking a four-year postgraduate program, passing interim examinations and then sitting the boards, both written and oral. Once board certified, a chiropractic orthopedists can properly evaluate and treat joint instability that does not require surgical stabilization. If a patient presents with instability in a joint, this has to be artificially stabilized until the natural soft tissue healing has occurred.
Examples of conservative orthopedic management would be taping a sprained ankle, supports for Plantar Fasciitis/heel spur syndrome, bracing and supports for low back instability, tennis elbow supports, cervical collars post whiplash, back supports for chairs in cars and at work/home, proper pillows, corrective foot orthotics, teaching patients how to pick the right shoes, and advice on the best beds.
Dr. Fowler was on the board of directors and taught around the country with a podiatrist that developed a revolutionary design in custom foot orthotics. Most orthotics are manufactured by measuring distortion in the feet and designing a device that minimizes this distortion. The functional orthotics that we use are manufactured by measuring optimal function in the feet and designing a device that maximizes this optimal positioning of the foot during the gait cycle. There are many painful conditions that develop from foot imbalances easily corrected with the right orthotic technology. These conditions include PLANTAR FASCIITIS, BUNIONS, BURSITIS, TENDINITIS, HAGLUND'S DEFORMITY, HAMMER TOES, MORTON'S NEUROMA, STRESS FRACTURES AND MANY MORE.
